Albakara - Let's play

Rainsticks

Materials

  • An empty paper towel roll
  • Aluminum foil
  • Dried beans, rice, lentils, or pasta
  • Glue
  • A razor blade
  • Scissors
  • Decorative paper (tissue paper, or wrapping paper)
  • Decorations (feathers, confetti, or anything you like)
  • Markers
  • Toothpicks

Steps

  • 1

Gather the materials and find on a hard, stable surface to work on, and grab the (empty paper towel roll) and aluminum foil.

  • 1

Wrap the entire roll, ideally with two rounds of wrapping, and use glue to keep it together.

  • 1

Cover the aluminum foil with decorative papers or sheets. If the material is light, wrap it around several times. Finish with glue to keep the decorative paper or sheets together.

  • 1

Cut out Xs with the razor blade to create openings for the toothpicks. Randomize the holes to have a more dramatic and fun effect at the end.

  • 1

Once you are happy with the number of holes, insert the toothpicks into the cut outs. If the toothpicks are too long, cut off parts of them to make them fit perfectly.

  • 1

Once that’s done, wrap the excess paper inward.

  • 1

Design a cap for both the top and bottom openings using the decorative paper. Close one side first, and make sure it’s firmly secured.

  • 1

Pour your filler items (beads/rice/small corn kernels etc.) into the open end of the tube. Then seal the open end just like you sealed the other side.

  • 1

Add additional decorations as you wish, or else make it rain.
